The Minnesota Society of Addiction Medicine (MNSAM) has elected Valley Medical and Wellness CEO Dr. Ashwin George to the position of President-Elect. Dr. George will hold this position for two years and then ascend to the position of President.
Dr. George previously served on the Executive Committee as MNSAM Secretary and chair of the advocacy committee. In his new role he replaces former President-Elect David Peter, who becomes the society’s new President.
“At Valley Medical, we are dedicated to helping patients advance in recovery and get back to living normal lives,” Dr. George commented. “I look forward to continuing my work with MNSAM to advance our cause among government bodies and the general public.”
MNSAM is the Minnesota chapter of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). Its multi-pronged mission is to increase access to and improve the quality of addiction treatment; educate physicians, other health care providers, and the public; support research and prevention; promote the appropriate role of the physician in the care of patients with addiction; and establish addiction medicine as a specialty recognized by professional organizations, governments, physicians, purchasers and consumers of health care services, and the general public. As part of its mission, MNSAM lobbies the Minnesota Legislature in support of causes that affect addiction treatment in the state of Minnesota.
Dr. George co-founded Valley Medical and Wellness in 2014 and currently serves as the company’s Chief Executive Officer. He is triple-board-certified in internal medicine, palliative care, and addiction medicine and is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
